How Our Process Works

Practical Steps that Rebuild Lives

We give women the resources and opportunities they need to grow past challenges that make job placement and income generation difficult. Through three distinct phases, we help women obtain work through local business partnerships, provide mentoring and skill-building sessions, and give ongoing support to both the women we mentor and their workplace managers.

Each phase of the Omega program lasts approximately 10 weeks. Checkpoints after each phase help determine progress, challenges, and goal achievement. While each intern will have a unique plan tailored to their needs, our program follows the same basic phase structure:

Phase 1

Our first phase starts with goal setting and a commitment from both the business manager and intern. Each party agrees to work with one another for at least 10 weeks. Most interns work two shifts a week to start. During this phase, we:

  • Support women with one-on-one mentoring
  • Provide mentor check-ins before every shift
  • Work through any mental or emotional challenges that may make upcoming shifts difficult
  • Work on cultivating skills like problem-solving, punctuality, and communication.
  • Provide ongoing weekly support through phone calls, texts, and emails outside of in-person meetings.

At the end of the first phase, the intern and mentorship team will evaluate success towards Phase 2.

Phase 2

In this phase, individual goals become more solidified, and the expectations for one’s job performance increases. We examine which skills may need improvement and capitalize on strengths. During phase 2, we also incorporate larger goals like considering college, looking for a permanent job position, and other applicable milestones.

Phase 3

Our last phase is highly individualized. We may help our interns navigate studying for a GED test, obtaining a certification, or filling out college applications. We may also examine debt payoff plans and other goals that ensure success after an intern has completed the Omega program.

In 30 weeks, our interns can accomplish a lot AND be employable.

Through every phase, our interns receive mentorship, counseling, and the support they need to succeed. We also work in close conjunction with the employer to address issues and concerns as they come up.

Our proven system and goal setting structure has already helped many women in the Portland area get back on their feet and thrive. We support women with practical tools, emotional support, experienced mentoring, and encouragement to push forward when it is difficult to do so.
