Her Hope For Her Son

Woman and son on rocky beach
She took a chance when she was 22 to leave behind a family dynamic that was unhealthy. Her independence and future depended on that decision, so off she went in the expectation of a different life in Oregon. She knew only a handful of people and while her job provided a lot of freedom
and alone time, she felt empty.

When the pandemic hit, it left her even more isolated, which brought to the surface the hidden coping mechanisms which kicked in full force. It went quietly unrecognized, until clarity came one night.
A relationship led to a pregnancy and a beautiful son, but that relationship also led to a physical altercation. She knew she needed to make some hard decisions, taking all her determination and strength. She ended up in a shelter and that connection led her to OmegaNW.

We are so grateful it did.

Each step in her journey is one of determination and grit.

Maybe her 2 year old son doesn’t recognize it now, but he will.

He is being shown by example there is a different way, one free from physical abuse and addictions. She is excited for her future, and is in OmegaNW’s paid internship and mentorship program, with the plans to start school soon.
When I asked about who is supporting her in this season of life, her answer was, “just Omega right now”. The simplicity of being there for someone during their hardest season, makes a difference.

That is you.
You are her support system.
You are her son’s undiscovered hope-filled future.
