What is Michelle’s story so far? What will her future hold?
Michelle (her name has been changed to protect her identity) recently started an entry level retail job that she is not qualified to do. Her life-skills are lacking because of the abuse she has suffered.
More on Michelle in minute. First, let’s talk about abuse.
There are many forms of abuse. Emotional abuse is elusive. Unlike physical abuse, the perpetrator and the victim may not even recognize it. Yet it can be more harmful than physical abuse because it undermines what we think about ourselves. It can cripple all we are meant to be, as we allow lies to define us.
Add to that the reality for some of experiencing spiritual abuse (the paralyzing fear of never being good enough for one’s Creator) and the cumulative effect debilitates someone’s entire life.
Someone like Michelle.
Michelle was horrifically abused by a trusted family member—someone that could have taught her about her true worth—but instead verbally beat her into complete submission and self-loathing.
Michelle will not even raise her eyes to look up from the floor when customers walk in.
She struggles with the simple math skills needed to run a cash register.
Her fear of being yelled at and being in the wrong keep her from speaking clearly.
Any task with more than two steps paralyzes her.
Michelle needs coaching to make the improvements necessary to succeed in a retail environment (and in life). Her progress is slow and treacherously painful: for herself, for her coworkers, and for customers.
In short, Michelle struggles through each day of her life. But with pure courage and a willing heart, Michelle is trying.

We need a safe place for them to learn the job skills essential for their next steps. A place where they can learn about their worth and the truth of who they are. It will still take amazing courage and a willing heart like Michelle has, but their progress will become more sure-footed as they heal, grow in confidence, and gain critical life-skills.
Time spent with Omega Espresso Bar will prepare ladies like Michelle for their future. Someday, they will be able to stand tall, look you in the eye and know that they are loved, worthy, and capable.
